Representative of a sophisticated rationalist positivism, not alien to the Husserlian canon and not insensitive to the motives dear to the gnoseological debate of Cartesian and Kantian matrix or to some characteristic themes of classical metaphysics, Souriau pursues the ideal of a constructive philosophy, capable of understanding and at the same time promoting the advancement of the process of creation, conceived as a set of “poetic acts”and creative operations. Using an epistemologically aware method, attentive to scrutinising the correspondences, borrowings and reciprocal passages between one mode of existence and another, as well as between the different art forms, Souriau invites us to rediscover in an ontological key a faculty that is too often undervalued: imagination.
The aim of this issue is to investigate Souriau’s thought in its many aspects. Contributions are therefore expected on:
- the ontological question in Souriau;
- Souriau’s comparative aesthetics;
- the question of the arts;
- the relationship with the main philosophies of the 20th century (from Bergson to Husserl, from Heidegger to Merleau-Ponty, and from Dufrenne to contemporaries).
